PORTUGUESE SHIPS - THE NRP SAVE

The Portuguese Navy patrol ship SAVE (P1161) at Funchal, Madeira on 11-08-2006

The last of the 10-ship CACINE-class, the SAVE is one of 4 ships still in commission (the others are P1140 -CACINE, P1144 - CUANZA and P1146 ZAIRE). Built at the Alfeite Dockyard and commissioned on 31 October 1973.Full load displacement: 292,50 tons, standard displacement: 279,50 tons, length overall: 48,10 m, breadth extreme: 7,64 m, draught: 2,2 m. Main engines: 2 MTU Maybach diesel engines developing 3.750 bhp - 20 knots maximum speed. Range: 4.400 sea miles at 12 knots. Guns: 1 Bofors 40 mm, 1 Oerlikon 20 mm. Complement: 33 (3 officers, 30 men).
